About the Opportunity
The Director of Event Fundraising is a critical leadership role within the Foundation’s Development Department and is responsible for leading the strategy and management of the Foundation’s fundraising event portfolio, including management of staff leading Peer-to-Peer fundraising events as well as a diverse portfolio of ticketed fundraising events, including galas, golf outings, luncheons, and other select events. This position will have direct oversight of the Foundation’s signature event, the annual gala. The ideal candidate will be an innovative thinker with past experience managing high-level donor relationships and event fundraising strategy. The position is based in the Foundation’s New York City office; please note that the organization currently utilizes a flex schedule, and all New York-based staff are required to work in the Foundation office weekly Tuesday-Thursday; staff may elect to work remotely Mondays and Fridays. This role is an exempt, full-time position with a salary range of $95,000 to $110,000 annually.
Responsibilities
- Oversee Foundation’s portfolio of fundraising events, including budget management, event strategy, design, and implementation
- Responsible for achieving budgeted revenue goals across fundraising event portfolio
- Manage and provide leadership, mentorship, and establish clear performance expectations for event-based fundraising staff
- Develop and oversee strategic plan for event-based fundraising vertical, with individual plans for each initiative/event series, including fundraising goals, budget recommendations, audience/donor analysis, vendor research, volunteer goals, timelines, logistics, and evaluation metrics; update on annual basis
- Develop standardized event planning processes to ensure consistency in budgeting, venue/vendor selection, honoree/committee recruitment, logistics, and donor/volunteer experience
- Act as primary event lead for Foundation’s annual gala, providing direct management and oversight of committees, Foundation staff, venue staff, vendors, and volunteers
- In coordination with the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), steward and develop growth for returning corporate and individual sponsors
- Responsible for overall event-based fundraising budget; provide monthly and quarterly projections to CPO and Finance Department, including timely and regular review of budget and expenses for the entire portfolio
- Oversee corporate sponsorships across the event portfolio: work with team to research, cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate sponsors; partner with marketing colleagues to develop appropriate collateral and presentation materials
- Actively and independently analyze industry trends; including data, safety protocols, and general events landscape to inform budget and expense projection and event strategy
- Partner with Board of Directors and Event Leadership to deliver on ticket/table/overall revenue goals
- Oversee the creation and design of event collateral, including print and digital promotions
- Design data-driven audience and outreach plan for each event, in partnership with Marketing and Communications team
- Lead collaboration efforts with colleagues to develop audience recommendations, invitation lists, committee membership, etc.
- Ensure the accurate recording of event revenue and expenses as well as the acknowledgement process in conjunction with database and finance colleagues
- Direct event committee recruitment and stewardship; lead committee meetings and efforts
- Cultivate collaborative and productive relationships with internal stakeholders throughout the Foundation
- Represent the Foundation’s event-based fundraising portfolio internally and externally
- Prioritize professional development of team members by providing education and growth opportunities and by setting clear goals and objectives
- Research and identify new ways to continue to engage and connect with donors and event attendees, and lead annual reevaluation of sponsor benefits
- Oversee selection and vetting of event vendors and related contracts in conjunction with Finance and Operations Department
- Perform other organizational tasks as needed
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 7 years special event fundraising and management experience required
- Demonstrated experience in effectively managing a diverse portfolio of donors and volunteers, with a proven ability to meet goals and benchmarks
- High degree of professionalism and relationship-building skills, with empathy for all stakeholders and the ability to influence and align staff at all levels at partner organizations
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Excellent verbal, written, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills, comfortable developing slide decks and presenting to key decision-makers and executive leadership in a compelling and effective manner
- Experience successfully managing and building effective internal working relationships with cross-functional teams
- Ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities to meet time-sensitive deadlines and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
- Willingness to travel and work nights and weekends as needed
- Advanced knowledge of common Microsoft Office applications; basic knowledge of CRMs, such as Raiser’s Edge
- Possess a valid driver’s license and able to lift up to 30lbs
